There’s something liberating about waking up in the morning, opening your laptop, and looking out at the Atlantic Ocean from your terrace while you work. The aroma of your coffee mingles with the sea breeze, and beyond the window, Mount Teide towers above. This isn’t a dream—this is digital nomad life in Tenerife. And more and more people are realizing that this isn’t a privilege, but a choice.
In recent years, Tenerife has become one of the most sought-after digital nomad destinations in Europe. And for good reason. The island offers the perfect balance between work and life: reliable internet, a vibrant community, low cost of living, and an environment where every moment of your free time can be an adventure. But let’s look in detail: why Tenerife?
The Island of Eternal Spring
The first and perhaps most obvious reason: the weather. There’s no winter in Tenerife. When most of Europe is drowning in snow and greyness, Tenerife has 20-25°C sunshine. Every day. All year round.
This cannot be overestimated. Weather isn’t just about comfort—vitamin D, sunlight, and warmth seriously affect mood, energy levels, and productivity. When you don’t have to work in three layers of clothing, when it doesn’t get dark at 5 PM, when you can go hiking or to the beach on weekends instead of staying locked inside—life simply becomes better.
And what’s particularly important: the temperature is stable. Tenerife is never as hot as Mediterranean countries in summer, and never as cold as Northern Europe in winter. This is “eternal spring”—always pleasant, always bearable, always perfect.
Internet That Actually Works
No matter how beautiful a place is, if the internet is slow or unstable, it’s unusable for digital nomads. In Tenerife, this isn’t a problem.
In the island’s larger cities—Santa Cruz and the Las Américas / Costa Adeje area—broadband internet is fast and reliable. Fiber optic connection (fibra óptica) is available in many places, and you can get speeds up to 600 Mbps. Most apartments, coworking spaces, and cafés have excellent Wi-Fi.
But what’s perhaps even more important: mobile internet is also great. 5G coverage is already available in larger areas, and even in more remote parts, 4G works. This means that if you want to go work in the mountains or at the beach, you can easily solve it with a mobile hotspot.
Many digital nomads say the internet in Tenerife is better than at home—and that’s no exaggeration.
Coworking and Coliving: A Community That Welcomes
One of the biggest challenges in digital nomad life is isolation. When you’re constantly traveling, it’s hard to build deep connections. Tenerife has solved this too: the island has numerous coworking and coliving spaces specifically designed for remote workers and nomads.
Coworking in the Sun
One of the best-known coworking spaces in Tenerife. It operates in multiple locations and offers not just desks and chairs—but an entire lifestyle. Meeting rooms, quiet zones, communal kitchens, free gym access, and regular community events: hikes, BBQs, surfing, yoga. This isn’t just a workplace—it’s a community.
Nine Coliving (La Orotava)
Located in the historic center of La Orotava, this beautiful Canarian house has become a coliving space. Anne, the owner, was herself a digital nomad and created this place after living a year traveling with 50 nomads. Nine Coliving is homely, friendly, and full of inspiring people. Free morning yoga, panoramic rooftop terrace, and Lara, the host dog who’s everyone’s favorite.
Maraya Coliving
In a barranco, with a terrace overlooking the ocean—Maraya is a dream. Created by five friends out of their love for surfing, remote work, and community. Fresh breakfast every morning, shared dinner four evenings a week, daily yoga, and a coworking space where you can choose: do you want a desk facing the ocean or the mountains?
Cactus Coliving
What makes Cactus special is that they take work seriously. Quiet coworking zones, casual coworking, garden workspace, and meeting rooms—everything you need to work productively. And afterwards? Shared breakfasts, hikes, yoga, and other programs that connect you with other nomads.

Ocean Nomads (Los Cristianos)
Imagine this: you’re working on your laptop, and beyond the window, the ocean waves. Ocean Nomads is located right on the Los Cristianos beachfront and offers one of the most beautiful views. Short stays are also possible, so you can try it before settling in for longer.
Cost of Living: You Don’t Need to Break the Bank
Tenerife isn’t the cheapest place in Europe, but compared to most Western European cities, it’s affordable. And if you plan smartly, it can be really budget-friendly.
Accommodation: A studio apartment rental long-term (1-6 months) costs about €500-800 per month, depending on location. Cheaper in Santa Cruz, more expensive in Costa Adeje. Colivings range from €700-1500, but these typically include breakfast, dinner, community programs, and coworking access—so overall, a good deal.
Food: If you cook at home, you can get by on about €40-60 per week for groceries. If you eat out, a menú del día (daily menu) is €10-15, a coffee €1.50-2.
Transport: Rental car about €200-400 per month, bus pass around €50.
Total: A digital nomad can live comfortably on €1200-1800 per month, including accommodation, food, transport, and entertainment.
Free Time: Where Work and Life Meet
Digital nomad life isn’t just about work. And in Tenerife, your free time options are endless.
Hiking: Teide National Park, the Anaga Mountains, Masca Gorge—a new adventure every weekend.
Surfing: El Médano is the surf and kite-surf mecca. Take lessons or simply splash in the sea.
Diving and snorkeling: Los Gigantes, El Puertito, Las Galletas—full of turtles, rays, and colorful fish.
Yoga and wellness: Many colivings offer daily yoga, and you’ll find studios throughout the island.
Community programs: Coworking spaces regularly organize hikes, BBQs, movie nights, and networking events.
And if you want to go somewhere on the weekend? La Gomera, La Palma, and Gran Canaria are all easily accessible by ferry.
Santa Cruz vs. Costa Adeje: Where to Settle?
This is the big question. Tenerife has two main digital nomad hubs:
Santa Cruz de Tenerife (North)
Pros: Local atmosphere, not touristy, cheaper, more coworking spaces, cultural life, traditional Spanish city.
Cons: No beach directly in the city (Las Teresitas is 20 minutes by bus), less sunny than the south.
We recommend for: Those who prefer city life, seek cultural programs, and don’t mind that the beach isn’t walking distance.
Costa Adeje / Playa de las Américas (South)
Pros: Beach within walking distance, more sunshine, warmer, beautiful coastline, more cafés and restaurants.
Cons: More touristy, more expensive, less authentic experience.
We recommend for: Those who love the beach, the sun, and don’t mind the presence of tourists.
Compromise: La Orotava (north, but quieter, historic town, close to Puerto de la Cruz) or Los Cristianos (south, but less touristy than Adeje).

Practical Tips for Digital Nomads
Visa: EU citizens can work and live freely in Spain. Non-EU citizens need a digital nomad visa (available in Spain since 2023).
NIE number: If you’re staying longer-term, it’s worth getting an NIE number (tax identification)—this makes apartment rental, opening bank accounts, etc. easier.
Community groups: Join the “Tenerife Remote Workers & Digital Nomads” Facebook group—here you’ll find apartments, events, and connections.
Car rental: If you rent long-term (1-6 months), you can get better rates. It’s about a 1-hour drive between the north and south.
Language learning: Many nomads learn Spanish in Tenerife—many language schools offer courses, and locals are kind if you try.
The Power of Community
Perhaps the most important thing in Tenerife is the community. When you travel as a digital nomad, you can easily become lonely. But in Tenerife, a vibrant, friendly, supportive community awaits.
People who have chosen the same lifestyle. Who understand what it’s like to work from the other side of the world while your family is at home. Who face the same challenges. And who are willing to share their knowledge, connections, and their lives.
Many nomads say they found their “tribe” in Tenerife—those people they still travel with, work with, or simply remain friends with.
Why Tenerife? Because Everything Comes Together Here
There’s sunshine. There’s internet. There’s community. There’s nature. There’s adventure. There’s peace. And there’s that feeling that you’re living a special part of your life—where work and freedom, productivity and relaxation aren’t opposites, but complement each other.
Tenerife isn’t perfect—no place is. But for many digital nomads, this place is the closest to what they’ve been looking for. And once you try it, chances are you’ll come back.
If you’re a digital nomad, or want to be one, Tenerife is waiting for you. Bring your laptop, an open heart, and curiosity—the island will provide the rest.
